TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) condemned a sacrilegious film that has won an award at the Cannes Film Festival.

In a statement released on Monday, ICRO said the screening of the movie has drawn the condemnation and anger of the devotees of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) across the world.

The statement said the film’s insulting of the eighth Shia Imam, Imam Reza (AS), who is revered by all Muslims and whose holy shrine is a sanctuary for both Shias and Sunnis and even non-Muslims, is an unforgivable sin.

It highlighted the Iranian society’s unlimited love for Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and reminded those involved in the production of the film that it is intertwined with the culture and beliefs of millions of people.

The statement said such moves that are part of the cultural onslaught of the West against the rich Islamic and Iranian culture are doomed to failure.

ICRO also stressed the need for monitoring such mischievous moves and comprehensive presence in the field of Jihad of Tabyeen (ethical and spiritual struggle to explain) to counter them.

The Iranian organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs has also denounced the fake content of the movie, saying it shows a distorted image of the Iranian society and insults the beliefs of Shia Muslims.

Directed by Ali Abbasi, Holy Spider is a co-production of France, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark.
